President VSCRIt’s April, the snow is gone, racing is just around the corner and I’ve been your president for four months, a third of my term has come and gone. So what is the state of the club? Pretty good. We have a full calendar of racing and testing dates beginning with the double SCCA regional weekend May 20th and 21st at Brainerd, followed the next weekend by our 1st test date at Dakota County Vo Tech.
We've had our annual banquet, which was very well attended with more than seventy VSCR members and guests in attendance. It’s not too early to begin thinking about next year's banquet - so if you would like to step forward, the club would really appreciate your help. The club is still without two key board members for this year. If you have time and would like to help the club, we would certainly welcome your help. Positions still open include vice president (will be president in 2001) and an editor. Liz has more than done her fair share.
Now for something really big. Over the last six weeks I have been working with a University of Minnesota student (Mr. Jeff Johnson) who has built us a web site. It can be temporarily viewed at webdesigner.ebc.umn.edu/hs203. This is a temporary home only, and by the time you read this, a permanent home will exist. It’s really pretty
cool and worth stopping by. It’s also well linked to other vintage group sites and CEN DIV racetracks. Upcoming meetings: Board meeting, to be held at my home on April 6th beginning at 7:00 pm, all board members please attend. We will be having a guest - the LOL Regional Executive at this meeting. He has asked for some time to speak on a topic of considerable interest to both LOL and to VSCR. Our next general membership meeting will be held on April 12th, beginning at 6:30 PM, at Diversified Cryogenics, Inc., 153 26th Avenue S.E., Minneapolis. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.
The checker is out for this session; see you somewhere down the road.
KIDS & KARTS
We at Darkhorse Ent. Inc. have been involved with kart racing for 18 years. We also recognize where many CART, IRL, Formula 1 drivers got their start - racing go-karts. We encourage any member of LOL to look us up if they wish their child, 7 years old and up, to become involved with motorsports. On our web-site, darkhorseent.com, we will have posted, for this season, approx. 14 kart track schedules which are from 1 hr to 3 hrs from the metro area. If members of LOL love and enjoy thier sport of choice maybe they would like to share the enjoyment with thier children. This would also lead 16 year olds to seek out SCCA & LOL if they have been racing karts since they were 8 years old.
I would like to hear from anyone at LOL who would like to pursue this idea farther, to see where it can go and where it could lead.
Thank You,
Cal Wendlandt 320-275-3729
