The future of Land O’Lakes region of SCCA
First a little about the past: ten years ago we were a growing club with a very active racing schedule. Even five years ago when we had the opportunity to host the Trans-Am races in downtown Minneapolis, there were high hopes that the club would prosper. In the early 90's the club had a goal to have enough in its reserves to cover ourselves in case we had a real bad event or just a real rough year. Even as little as five years ago, when the

economy was struggling, there seemed to be no shortage of available funds-$30,000+. Although Land O’Lakes is NOT FOR PROFIT, we do need to plan for a future. As I am writing this, the club’s current balance is a dangerously low $10,000 at the start of our racing season.
The money problem does not have just one cause, but the #1 cause is that the club has higher expenses and has not passed them along to its members. For example, the track rental for CBIR has risen $1000 in the past two years and insurance costs have gone up for all events. Along with the higher costs, participation levels are down considerably from just a few years ago. Basically what I am saying is: we are in for some changes. The current LOL Board of Directors has been working on a plan to insure that Land O’Lakes region will survive. The BoD is taking this problem seriously; we have consulted with past board members and others to get their ideas on what is needed to get back on track.
At this time the board has constructed budgets for all areas of LOL, and part of the chief's and chair's responsibility is to stay within their budgets. As with any plan, we will need the help of the membership to continue to actively participate and continue to put on LOL events.
