ing combative with the track management but trying to work with the track in ways that have not been done since the days of the Uncola National and the Trans-Ams that were spectator attractions. I am not saying that we will get the opportunity to have a pro race this year, but we have to start somewhere. The board will be working with the track to help them (not financially) promote our events to attract spectators. Other clubs that are getting the dates that they want are getting the spectators, and not just the drag races.

Those of us drivers that have ever tried to get sponsors are asked the question, "How many people will see your car?", and we think to ourselves "The same 200-300 people that come to work, crew and participate in every event". Not a very good value for our sponsors. This can be a WIN WIN opportunity for the club, its drivers and its members. What we need from our members is to get excited about racing and stay or get involved in your club. Most of us can remember the "good old days" in the not- so-distant past, what attracted us to this sport and our first exposure to SCCA road racing. It was not the complaining or the whining, it was the racing, rallying or Solo II, but I think a biggest part of it was the people. So let's get more and new people involved.

finish 7th. As the event moves to mid-September next year, hopefully the weather won’t be the huge factor seen in the past two RUNOFFS.

Supplementary regulations for most race events stipulate that race trophies will not be mailed. For our Fall 2000 Challenge, Race Chair Deb Dahl went way beyond the call of duty. Due to a minor miscalculation, insufficient trophies were on hand at the conclusion of the second race on Sunday. A couple weeks later I was amazed to get back to the house to find Deb had personally dropped off a trophy along with a nice letter of explanation. Thanks to Deb for taking all that trouble, and thanks even more for your excellent job as Race Chair.

The LOL Awards Banquet will be Friday, January 19th, at the St. Paul Holiday Inn. Thanks to all members who sent in nominations for awards which are currently under consideration by the Comp Board. We look forward to a big turnout in January.

Dear Mr. Foster:

I see by your recent column that you do not regard ignorance on a subject as a reason not to have an opinion or to express that opinion widely.

You owe the Central Division Stewards in general, Angelo Gazzola in particular, an apology.

While my time as a steward is not extensive, I have been most impressed with the lengths gone to ensure fairness of competition and impartiality through my training. Mr. Parsons was treated fairly in spite of his demeanor. The process insured fairness to his competitors.

So now that you have called eight Central Division Stewards, a Tech Chief and the National Appeals Committee a bad name, the ball is in your court. Remember, if you believe that you have been treated unfairly, there is a process for redress called a protest. I promise you will be treated fairly.

Sincerely,
Les Tillman
Divisional Steward, SCCA
