President VSCRHow quickly a year goes; it seems like just yesterday I was elected as your president, and now I’m writing my last column and in my last month of duties. It’s been a quick trip and one that I will remember as capping my involvement in motor sports. Yes it's true, I’ve decided to retire from active participation in motor sports. I’ve given this decision a lot of thought over the last three years, letting go a little at a time, first from CART, then from the SCCA Steward Program and with the conclusion of my year as President, I’ll retire from all active participation in motor sports after 35 seasons - where does the time go?
The other night I got a first hand look at what the LOL SCCA racing schedule might look like when confirmed. It would start at Black Hawk Farms the last weekend in April where LOL would co-host a double driver's school and regional with another region. The driver's schools would be Friday and Saturday, with a regional on Sunday. On the third weekend in May, LOL will be hosting a restricted regional/national event at Brainerd.
Labor Day weekend could be a pro event at Brainerd that could include
our cars as a support race. If the pro event doesn’t work out, then LOL plans to run a double regional event - so whatever happens, plan on being at Brainerd for the Labor Day weekend event as always.
LOL's final event for 2001 is planned as a double regional for the last weekend of September. It could be cold and wet, but the racing should be hot as ever. If the weather is good, as it can be, the fall colors should make the weekend most memorable and the winter just a little shorter.
Our remaining membership meeting of the year will be Wednesday, December 13th, beginning at 7:00 pm at Diversified Cryogenics Inc., 153 26th Avenue S.E., Minneapolis (1 block east of "Little Dearborn", off of University Avenue. It is also our annual election meeting as well, so if you can please attend, refreshments will be provided. I would like to thank you once again for the opportunity to have served you this past year as your president, and I would also like to thank the rest of the club officers and eligibility committee for their time and support. Without them it would have been a very long year for me - so thank you Walt Duffy, Daryl Fortier, Brian Crombie, Bob Youngdahl, John Daniels, Jeff Ingebrigston, Brian Kennedy, Larry Page and Rich Stadther.
Looks like we’re out of time for this session, see ya down the road.
