by Dick DickinsonTom Fisk is winding down as the SOLO II Chair. As his time unwinds, we should take a moment to thank Tom for his years of service to the SOLO II program. Tom has always been a friendly, enthusiastic competitor, and has given time and effort to help and promote the program. I always appreciated Tom’s help and guidance as I tried to wind my way through the sea of cones this sport is. You may want to take a moment to e-mail Tom (tomfisk@home.com) to thank him.
We all wish Tom the best as he pursues his ride in DSR. Tom talked me into attending Comp Board meetings, as they were in Eagan where I live. This led to my attending the Met Council as the LOL representative. Little did I know that a little help to Tom would turn into so much work. As the year winds down we look forward to the 2001 season. The schedule is first and foremost on my mind. It is my hope to have a schedule with a driver's school in place by the time of the auto show in Minneapolis. The reason is to have a product that we can present to potential competitors we interest at the auto show - to attract new blood and follow through with a known product to keep their interest. As this will be my first year as SOLO Chair, I will need all the help you can give me in arranging the 2001 schedule. The problem at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) continues. Met Council and several of the clubs in the Twin cities area continue to work with DCTC and the outlook is hopeful. Outside
the Twin cities, it is my hope that LaCrosse, Fairmont and Watertown are viable events for the coming season. If representatives of the clubs outside the Twin Cities would contact me at DickinsonRacing@aol.com we could firm up dates and locations. Last but not least is my need for assistance working on the SOLO program. One of the dire needs is for a points keeper. Another is for a second person to serve on the Comp Board which meets in Anoka or Eagan. Volunteers for Event Masters, or any of the help I am in need of, please contact me by e-mail. Last, the nominations for SOLO II Driver of the Year are in, and they are Tom Fisk, Stephan Jones and Chris Holter. Do you know of a reason for one to be Driver of the Year? If so, e-mail your reason to me, or attend the Comp Board meeting December 5th, at 7:30 pm at WardSports, 801 North St., Anoka, MN. With visions of Kumhos, Hoosiers, Goodyears and more dancing in my head, here’s wishing you the Best of Holiday Seasons.
