Fubar, continued from page 7 while Steve encouraged me to stick around for the Award Reception under the tent. I passed as I had a 2 hour drive back to Toledo and early wakeup for 8:00 class on Monday. I hit the 2 lane road westbound and just a few miles away from the track the skies suddenly cleared for a beautiful sunset. Of course, the next day in Toledo was perfect autumn weather, but I was stuck inside for 9 hours of class. Tuesday I was in the simulator and then of course the weather was (simulated) terrible as Joe Bltsfysk struck again.
I intended to put some final thoughts on the RUNOFFS together, but this club racing stuff pales after the tragic events of Halloween week as I finalize this article. To witness the brutal crash that took the life of Greg Moore was traumatic. Greg burst upon the racing scene as a 16 year old Canadian FF champion, and his future could not have been brighter. Already a proven winner in CART, he was set to spearhead a revitalization of Team Penske in the new century. Greg was a most personable young man who was always available to friends and fans alike. His weekend at Fontana started badly when he was run down in the paddock while at the wheel of his scooter. Maybe he shouldnt have been trying to drive after smashing his hand, but its hard to convince a racer not to participate, and he was making rapid progress from the back of the pack. Then the next day Walter Payton was felled by cancer at age 45. I met "Sweetness" only a year and a half earlier on a company trip and he was a fantastic individual with a fun loving personality. It is sad to see these nice people pass. Its also sad to lose over 200 nice people in a tragic airline crash and a great golfer in a charter jet disaster. Maybe all the bad stuff is over for a while.
REport, continued from Page 1
What the Board needs to know from you is how would you like to these events structured. When and where do we hold our drivers school? Which events should be double regionals? Should we look at sprint and enduro formats?
Now is your chance to influence how and what we schedule. But do it soon. Decisions must be made and we do not have the luxury of waiting. Come to the next Board meeting and let us know what you are thinking. Remember all Board meetings are open to the membership and coming to a meeting is the best way to make yourself heard.
