President VSCRAbout a month ago I approached Billy G. about what direction the club would like me to take in the coming year - remain on the Comp Board for a third year, move to the LOL Board of Directors, run for president, or sit it out for a few years - youve done enough. The next thing I know, Billy G. is thanking me for stepping up to lead the club and Lynn Anderson is asking me for my first Tonneau article as your new President. How quick things change. I have some really big shoes to fill and look forward to trying to do just that. With your help well have another great year to talk about at next year's banquet.
Id like to start my term by saying "Thank You" for a job well done to the following outgoing 1999 board members and to welcome the incoming 2000 board:
1999 outgoing Board Members: President - Bill Groshen; VP - Jeff Johnk; Editor - Liz Stadther; Secretary - Daryl Fortier; Treasurer - Walt Duffy; LOL Comp. Board Representative - Bill Medcalf; Competition Chairman - John Mayer; Eligibility Committee - Jack Beckman, Jeff Ingebrigtson, Rem Laan, Larry Page, Frank Roberts, Liz Stadther.
2000 incoming Board Members: President - Bill Medcalf; VP - Open (will be President 2001); Editor - Open; Secretary - Daryl Fortier; Treasurer- Walt Duffy; LOL Comp. Board - Bob Youngdahl / Brian Crombie; Comp. Chairmen - Bob Youngdahl / Brain Crombie; Eligibility - Jeff Ingebrigtson, John Daniels, Rich Stadther, Larry Page.
It goes without saying; without your support, our club and what we do could not go forward - "Thank you again for your support and dedication". We are still in need of a new vice president, and also an editor to replace Liz who is looking forward to some well deserved time off; so if you can, please consider either of these positions, we desperately need both. Next let's look at the overall condition of Vintage Road Racing. As we enter into the new Millennium, Vintage road racing is experiencing dizzying growth, with more than one hundred sanctioning and marque / special interest groups putting on events yearly. Why such growth? I like to think its because we offer not only some of the best road racing in the country, but also the glamour and color of days gone by through the many rallies, concours, and shows held annually across the country. A superb example in our own back yard is the "Chicago Historics", held annually the third weekend in July, drawing over 700 cars and including an annual Can-Am reunion, along with Concours held at Siebkens on both Friday and Saturday nights.
In the coming year it is my desire, with your help, to lead our club into new non-traditional venues, while retaining our racing heritage and having fun. Some ideas - how about a club outing to a performance tuner facility for a tour and bench session this spring; a dinner mystery cruise (rally) this summer; a club display at the Car Craft Magazine sponsored Street Machine Nationals, held at the state fair grounds in early July, and how about co-sponsoring or going as a group to Heartland this season, racing with RMVR for starters. Do you have other ideas? Contact me!
Our next meeting will be December 15th at Diversified Cryogenics, Inc., 153 26th Avenue S.E. Minneapolis (612) 331-1235 (First Drivers Right past "Little Dearborn" off University).
In the coming months I would like to showcase a member in this column, so if you would like to be immortalized forever in print, please e-mail me your bio and information on your ride. I may be reached by e-mail at Bill.P.Medcalf@Corp.Honeywell.Com
See you down the road.
