Vintage View

by Jeff Ingebritson
President VSCR

Like many racing organizations, VSCR is considering some major changes this year. For new officers, I was elected president, and Brian Kennedy was elected vice president. Daryl Fortier will continue on as secretary, and Walt Duffy will stay as treasurer. Brian Crombie maintains his position as Competition Chair, and Dan Muldowney will be our new newsletter editor. Thanks to these guys and the other past officers for keeping the faith, as we have had some excellent vintage racing experiences in past years.

On the rules side of the VSCR, many of our members recommended moving the eligiblity year cutoff up to December 31, 1975. The motive is to gain new members and cars. A good motive to be sure; however, our history has taught us that when we add newer and faster cars, the older and slower cars go away. Our net result is fields which have stayed about the same size, but lap times drop substantially. Also, with addition of newer and faster cars, it may be time to consider requesting two vintage race groups when racing at CBIR, either separating open wheel and closed wheel, or separating the cars based on speed potential.

So we have lots of change in the wind. I tend to be old school on these issues, but whatever direction our membership votes to take us, we have to adapt to our changing circumstances, just as LOL and Denver are doing. We are a racing club, let's keep it that way.

This year, VSCR will plan monthly meetings/activities, a new club poster, and Bill Groschen is scheduling more test/tune days at the local training tracks. The test/tune sessions are a very positive addition to the club venue. Also, VSCR will try to provide some checkered flag activities at the "away" events at Elkhart and Blackhawk which are popular with our members. We will be back in force at CBIR for the LOL May race, and are looking forward to the Labor Day possibility as well. Lots of change, but lots of activities and lots of enthusiasm; I see blue skies ahead. Keep smilin' and keep the faith.

Report, continued from page 1

There are some things that we will be working with the track management on all summer so we will be of more value to the track.

I did talk to Scott Quick, the track manager, and he does plan to attend our banquet on January 19th. That will be a good chance to hear about the changes at the track and find out what the track has in mind for LOL/SCCA.

Deadline for the February
Tonneau is January 9th.
Please submit your material at the LOL Board Meeting that night or send it to Lois Bjelke.
