I hope everyone had the best of Holiday Seasons.

Anyone who has any questions about SOLO, please feel free to contact me at DickinsonRacing@aol.com, or 651-688-7627. As we start the New Year I feel a little confused. This is probably something which will have to be worked out with Denver. SOLO is designed to get people interested in motor sports, yet we discourage spectators. I believe one of the ways to develop interest is to get people out to see the competition and have them enter future events. If anyone has an idea as to how to better reach interested people by all means contact me.

Along the lines of developing interest, I have talked with the organizer and sponsor of the Cheyenne Shootout. Basically they close off the downtown streets of Cheyenne, Wyoming, for a two day SOLO event. It is based out of a local hotel, which sells out for the weekend. On Friday they have a VIP/media event. On Saturday and Sunday a two day event is held. The winners of the 18 to 20 classes then compete in identical vehicles, loaned by the dealer who sponsors

the event, and have a "shootout" in identical cars for the overall winner. The mayor and city council are behind the event as are the merchants. The event brings 8,000 to 10,000 people to downtown Cheyenne. They have been very innovative in getting the college art department to draw posters every year. Framed posters are given to sponsors and VIPs to promote the event. The organizer gave me several good ideas, and I will be working on an event like this in the future. Another way to run the event could be under Met Council sponsorship, and have the shootout between the various club champions for an end of the year shootout. Any way you look at it, this would be a benefit to our sport. If you know of a town in the Twin Cities area which would be a good place to have a shootout, or have suggestions or ideas, call me.

The Dakota County Technical College(DCTC) problem is not yet resolved. Many people in the Met Council are working hard to resolve this problem so we can book events there. If DCTC falls through as a site for events, look to having a greater number of participants at our La Crosse, Fairmont, and Watertown events. As an aside, would event masters from these sites call me, as we need to discuss the 2001 schedule. Anyone who has a site or wants to be an event master for a Twin Cities event give me a call. The Met Council hopes to publish a final schedule by 3/10/01.

And The Light, continued from page 2

my cappuccino forgotten, as he lifted a little to take the next corner.

I saw my opportunity, and counting on the innate agility of my trusty steed, I pulled wide into the number two lane and kept my foot buried in carpet. Slowly, I inched around him, feeling my Metro roll slowly to the left as I came abreast in the midst of this gradual sweeping turn. I felt the Geo ease onto its suspension stops, and felt the right rear wheel slowly leave the ground - no matter, though, because my drive wheels, up front, were pulling me through the corner, and around the Festiva.

The Ford driver beat his wheel in rage as my wife’s car eased past him on the outside, my P165/80R13’s screaming in protest, as we raced to the next light. We coasted down, neck-and neck, to the red light. I tightened my driving gloves, ready for another round, when this WIMP in the next car meekly flipped his turn signal and made a right. Chevy/Geo (Suzuki) superiority reigns!!!

I drove off sipping my masculine drink, awash in my sheer virility, looking for other unwitting targets. Perhaps a Yugo, or maybe even a Volkswagen Van!
