Assistant R.E.

A BIG thank you to Joe Lodl and Lois Bjelke for staffing registration at the National race in May. Thanks to Shannon for bearing the burden of race chair and being the general dogsbody. Everything seemed to go smoothly and the event went off as planned. Well almost, ‘cos the weather didn’t cooperate on Sunday afternoon. Those lunches were amazing, to quote one of the workers.

The gravel pit finally dried out enough to get in the first RallyCross of the season. A little later than planned, but a good turnout. Our rally program is well underway for the season. I hear that a rally sprint is planned to precede the Ojibwe Pro Rally. Should be fun, ‘cos Norm Johnson gets this big grin on his face just talking about it.

Our rally community is really doing wonders with their events, helped by sponsorship from Morrie’s Subaru. As a result, Morrie’s has sold more WRXs than any other dealer in the country. More WRXs, more rally cars, more rally cars, even more WRXs.

Late September has a double regional and HPCCC event, which was very well received last year. We’re hoping to have a HPCCC with the Labor Day double regional, but need someone to organize it. Our dapper RE is busy plotting to see if he can run his car in the regional, vintage AND HPCCC events in one weekend. We’ll have to pry his fingers from the steering wheel.

Other news of note is that the Board of Directors and the Competition Board had a joint meeting which was very productive. We realized that we needed to refocus our priorities, so both boards came away with action items. We’ll meet again in July, to hammer out the details and put them into action. Careful, this could resemble progress.
