Vintage View

President VSCRBy now the first racing season of the new century is well underway. I hope everyone who participated in the Jerry Knapp Memorial Double Regional hosted by the Land of Lakes Region, Sports Car Club of America had a good and safe time. Putting on an event such as this is no easy matter. There are countless hours spent by all specialties to make this event come off, especially the race chairman and assistants that virtually go unnoticed if everything is going well. Without these dedicated workers we wouldn’t have an event to race at. So the next time you’re going through registration, tech, your car breaks on track and you need a tow or you're in the tower looking for your qualifying times or race results, please take the time to say "thank you" to that kind and considerate volunteer helping you -they could be doing something else.
Speaking of special workers, let's also include and say "thank you" to our own Bill Groschen. Without him, we would not have track time at Dakota County - and it’s cheap - $40.00 per event -thank you again Bill for taking on this responsibility. If you're still sitting on the fence, I believe Bill still has openings on June 17, July 15, August 12 and September 9th, so give him a call at 1-888-323-8456.
It’s not too early to start thinking about running for our Vintage Board this fall. If you haven’t served or it’s been a while since you last served on the board, please consider serving this time. Key positions available include president, vice president, editor (Liz really needs a break - we've got to find her a replacement!), and others. We also need to think about developing a long-term vision - think of it as a "business plan". Where do we want to go, what do we want to become, and how do we want to get there? We've started the journey with the inclusion of newer "vintage" cars coming into our group this year, expanding our fields and giving us much needed new resources and ideas. What type of "newer" vintage cars is coming into our group? Cars that by age could fit in vintage, but that have been updated continually for SCCA club racing but are no longer competitive, or becoming extremely rare and expensive to maintain in club racing, such as the mid 70’s Penske’s IROC Camaro of Doug Karon. Others could possibly include cars such as Jon Brakke’s Yenko Corvair. Are we on the right track? Let us know, your opinion does matter!
The checker is out for this session.
