The 2000 Solo II schedule has been "set"...at least as well as it could be as we are still finalizing the details on a couple of the locations. Starting out the season is the traditional Spring Sprint Solo event in LaCrosse, WI on May 21st, held at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway (in West Salem, WI). This year, practice laps will be allowed for the first time (at least that I can remember) before competition runs. There will be 2 practice laps per competitor. This should help the novices learn the course and "come up to speed" more quickly. While we don’t have any rules about practice runs, I would suggest that unless you are a novice competitor, you take your practice laps alone, without any passengers in the vehicle. If you are a novice, have a more experienced driver ride with you to help you learn the course...even better yet, ride with a more experienced driver so you can see how they drive the course.

The second event of the season will be a co-sanctioned event with MAC at the Dakota County Technical College in Rosemont, MN on June 3rd. This year we are having 2 co-sanctioned events with MAC. If you have not been to DCTC, I would suggest that it should definitely be on your schedule of events for 2000. The events at DCTC are held on a drivers' training course, so there are a lot of combinations of tracks that can be set up. The course can be either short or long...always something new. Last year was the first time I ran at DCTC and it was a blast. With the event co-sanctioned by MAC, you will have to choose which series you want your points to go to, LOL, MAC, or both. A lot of the MAC competitors aren’t interested in the LOL series, and vice-versa, so having the competitor indidicate

which series they want to score points in makes bookkeeping a lot easier for the points keeper (that’s me!).

The third and fourth events are going to be held at the Fairmont Airport, on June 17th and 18th. The Fairmont event is always well attended by competitors from all over the region. The fifth and sixth events are tentatively scheduled for July 8th and 9th in Rochester at the Rochester Community Technical College. This year I am going to try to have a 2-day event in Rochester. I am still finalizing the details with the school administrators, but everything is looking good right now.

On July 30th, the series returns to LaCrosse (ok...West Salem) for the 40th anniversary of the Sports Car Club of LaCrosse (SCCLaC) Solo II. LOL is happy to be participating in and helping SCCLaC celebrate their 40th anniversary. The seventh event will be held on August 5th at DCTC, again co-sanctioned with MAC. The next events will be on August 19th and 20th somewhere in eastern South Dakota...Sioux Falls, Watertown, or Brookings will be the likely location. The folks from the Siouxland Club put on a great event and it is well worth the drive to attend.

The season ends with the traditional Oktoberfest event back in LaCrosse (yeah, yeah...West Salem) on September 24th. That’s 11 events in all...another fine spring, summer, and fall of Solo II competition in the LOL region. I hope to see you at all of the events.

In the meantime, get your car ready! See you in LaCrosse (uh...West Salem)!
