45 YEARS OF MOTORSPORTS
by Norm Nelson
Since its inception in the early fifties, the Land OLakes region has had an interesting and colorful history. This history exists in the minds, garages and basements of some of the early members. Yes, some of the charter members are still around and involved in motorsports in the 90s.
This brief tome is a plea for some people to take an interest in assembling and preserving this important and significant history. In this time of computers, scanners and marvelous software there is an opportunity to preserve the records and memorabilia from the early days of our region. Imagine having a program from an early Donnybrooke Trans Am or an Uncola National at the tips of our fingers, safely scanned into the computer. The early records of the club safely stored on disk, where backup copies are easy to produce and take no more storage space than your shirt pocket.
We have people who would share their collections with the club if some of us would do the scanning, cataloging and putting the history together. Are there any of our junior members, with computer skills needing honing, who would give an afternoon or evening a month to preserving the history of our club? Or how about someone who was not involved at the time who would like to learn about the history through this fascinating history. Maybe a member who recalls the old times and wants to see them preserved.
If you are interested in working on this fascinating project call Tony Foster (612) 944-5034 or Norm Nelson (612) 421-6145.
YOU could be a part of history.
