WHAT'S NEW IN MEMBERSHIP?
By Pat Lamon, Membership Co-chair
Our membership is 1148 as of April 1st. We also have 10 dual members who are not included in the national printout, so we actually have 1158 members. We have 24 members up for renewal.
A couple of additions to the information in the April Tonneau about licensing. Everyone who works at a roadracing event must be licensed to be covered by the SCCA insurance. Even if you have never worked a specialty, you will receive a Regional license for the specialty. All you have to do is request a license form from one of us or from Kathy Goettsch, 612-789-3595, one of our RAs for Registration. You can send it in to National or give it to one of us. There is a check-off box on the membership application if you need a crew license. It is sent with your new membership card.
If you are updating your license, allow enough time for your RA (Chief) to sign it and then it must be forwarded to the Divisional Administrator of your specialty for his/her signature. It is then sent to SCCA where they will process it for you. How soon your license is returned depends on the speed with which the signatures are collected. Allow plenty of time, copy everything including your check, and if you havent received your license by the time youre leaving for the track, take your copies with you. Depending on the registration staff, they may serve as your license for the event. The same goes for your membership. You can renew early. What a concept! Your anniversary date remains the same, but if you renew late, your name is taken off the national printout, and we have no way to check to see if you are a member. Even though you may be our best friend, we still have to have proof! So be sure to pack your membership card, your license, and your photo ID and have them ready to hand to the registrars at the track. It really speeds things up if you are prepared!
When you receive your membership card and license, check them to make sure they are correct. If your card/license has "None Applied For" where it should say your specialty and grade, something is wrong. Call/fax Central Licensing at the national office. The phone # is 303-694-6507. Fax # is 303-694-7391. If you are bringing children to the track, they MUST be covered by a minor child waiver. These may also be obtained from Kathy Goettsch. Fill them out ahead of time, and have them ready to present at registration. Both parents must sign the waiver, and they are good for an indefinite period.
If you are a Regular, Speed Freakz, Dual or Family member you should be receiving The Tonneau, our newsletter. If you have not received your copy for the month or for a few months, please let us know.
