To Fellow Members of SCCA Area 5:

Twenty-nine years ago when I joined SCCA I was a car nut who needed a way to get close to the action he enjoyed. I was a true Speed-Freak. Since then I have been a corner worker, timer, race chairman, steward-in-training, regional board member, legal counsel, RE, and Solo safety steward. I am an active driver, competing in Improved Touring class A and in Solo II in Street Touring. I have loved it all. Now I am seeking your support for the position of Director for Area 5 of the SCCA national board. The National organization of SCCA is at a cross-road. We have a new President. He is new to sports car racing. I believe that he has some good ideas. We have to use caution so as not to lose the spirit of volunteerism that we have. We have to use that spirit to gain a better position in the world of motor sports. The high cost of racing is a concern, but it may be as hard to

  • We must also give consideration to the effect change has on the operation of individual regions. The national organization should also use its position in the motor sports community to insure the health of professional and amateur road racing in North America.
  • We need a strong program aimed at teens and pre-teens. It is a difficult task to say everything there is to say in this short letter. I can only promise you that I will provide you with the best representation I can. I will make decisions the way I do every day as a member of the judiciary; fair, well thought out, and without any bias, except that SCCA is the best racing organization in the world. Do not forget to vote when you get your ballot. It is an unique opportunity.

Yours Truly,
Tony Machi

control as a GT-1 car in a Road America cloudburst. We can try to bring the cost of racing down by marketing the programs we have for the benefit of all the participants. We need to get the corporate support we deserve. This is a two-way street and we must earn their support. The average age of an SCCA member is getting higher. I am certainly doing my part to raise it. We need a program aimed at very young people. If baseball can have little league, why can't SCCA? The following are some bullet points as to my thoughts:
  • I am a very strong supporter of SCCA and it's programs.
  • I believe that we have a great organization.
  • We need to manage our assets for the benefit of all our members.
  • Rules must be stable and must consider the investments made by individuals to participate.
