CANDIDATES from page 12

Since I am running for a Second term for the board I thought it would be interesting to use the BIO that I used two years ago; but with some added thoughts and comments. The new stuff will be in bold.
I’ve been around SCCA, Land O Lakes racing a long time. Ever since I could walk, I grew up at BIR. I worked in Timing and Scoring for many years, played runner at the spectator events for "press" and crewed on various cars that leaked (no offense Dad). For the last six years, make that seven, I have been running an ITB car. (the yellow one with the bad paint job - the paint job has gotten a lot better.)
I have organized icekhana events for the past few years. I have arranged for a permanent site for RallyCrosses. My goal is to make them self-supporting and no drain on club finances. I can’t take credit for that. RallyCross has been doing an excellent job without my interference. I also have contributed to the LOL WWW site. I have the experience to represent the driver’s and worker's viewpoint while being well aware of the organizational side of racing. I am even more aware now than I was two years ago.
I have seen many changes in racing and LOL over the years. I think I understand the responsibilities and time involved in being on the Board from the years my dad worked for the club as board member and RE. Boy was I wrong there. I underestimated the time by at least a lap. I can appreciate the positive things the board has done in the past while also seeing the need for new ideas, inviting the input from the members, and
keeping members out of the dark. I still stand by that statement.
For one thing, I know that the number of regional racing events now number half what they did a few years ago. One of the things I hope to do is to try to increase the number of L.O.L. club racing events, but I know I can’t do this alone. In 2000 we did add a Club racing event, and although the date that was available to the club was not ideal, we have to start somewhere, and with hard work from every one I still think the added event will be a success. I would also like to involve more members in club events such as the RallyCrosses, ice events, and club racing, and invite members’ input on the direction and emphasis this club should take. It would be great to get even more feedback.
I have the people skills (so they say, I’m not sure who "they" is), the history of long-time club participation, and the desire and enthusiasm to work for the future of LOL. The "family" of club racing includes all members, and it is my goal to work for the best interest of the total club membership. I always throw my every effort into anything I take on, and look forward to the challenge of being on the LOL board.
Being on the board has been a challenge, and I still am looking forward to bringing some consistency to the board. After my first year on the board and now that I am RE, the lack of consistency (in my opinion) has been the biggest hurdle to overcome. Last year when I became RE, I did not have the full picture of what was required and what needed to get done. With two years under my belt and one of those years being RE, I now understand a whole lot
more of what is required of a LOL board member. Besides the time that I have spent on the board, the toughest thing I have to deal with is writing the RE report. DAMN!! It is hard to figure out what people want to know about.
