As I’m writing this it’s just before 8 pm, dark with a definite fall chill in the air - boy where did the summer go? Our season is winding down with only the fall classic for many of us remaining. With fall for many of us it’s time to put away the racecars for a while and to re-acquaint ourselves with family and friends, for others it’s time to sell the old car and move up or into another class. For me, I’ve decided to sell my street Corvette and go racing next year, so if anyone is interested in a very well cared for, extremely low mileage 90 L98 coupe give me a call.

General membership meetings will resume on October 10th at 7 pm, meeting at Diversified Cryogenics Inc., 153 26th Avenue S.E., Minneapolis (1 block east of "Little Dearborn", off of University Avenue). The balance of general membership meetings for the year will then be - November 15 and December 13. Remaining board meetings will be October 5, November 9, and December 7. All remaining board meetings will take place at my home located at 9116 Victory Court, Brooklyn Park, MN, beginning at 7 pm.

Upcoming elections - remember our December general membership meeting will be our annual elections night. Nominations have been slow in coming, please consider running for next year’s board; we could really use your help. Please contact any of the board members or myself if you would like to volunteer your services for the coming year.

Remaining event is down to just the Fall Classic at Road America on September 22 -24, let’s have a good showing! If you’re not going to Road America, the Land O’Lakes region could sure use your help at Brainerd, as they will be short staffed in every category due to the F1 at Indy - please consider helping out if you can.

On a sad note, during the recent CART/Trans Am weekend at Road America, a long time member and friend, Steve Conroy, died during his sleep on Saturday night. Bonita Thurner, son Tom Conroy, daughter Katie Conroy, and sister Julie Richmond survive Steve. Steve was 60 years old. The club lost a true friend that night, and we extend our condolences to his family and friends.

Looks like we’re out of time for this session - see ya down the road.

Looking at the results from the Jack Pine Sprints it looks like we put on another extremely good showing, with 21 cars in the paddock on Saturday, and 19 starting and finishing Sunday’s event. Fastest lap on Sunday was turned in by Doug Karon in his IROC Camaro at 1:50.840, 97.437 miles per hour on lap 11. To put that in perspective, the current T1 race track record is 1:48.083, set by Erick Heuschele in his Dodge Viper on September 5, 1998. Monday’s race saw 8 of our members taking both the green and checker flag - good showing! On Monday Gerry Tussing, driving his Titan Mk6A Formula Ford, set fastest lap of the race at 1:56.652, 92.583 miles per hour on lap 9. Race track record at Brainerd for a Formula Ford is 1:43.418, 104.430 set by Dennis O’Neal in a Swift DB1 on September 4, 1993. All in all, a very good showing from our club. A personal "thank you" to all who participated.
