Greg Youngdahl

Regional Executive

The last few weeks have been very difficult for the BOD and the region. After putting in large amounts of time to attempt to keep the remainder of our 2001 racing alive, and holding out the until last possible moment, we all came to the conclusion that we were fighting a battle that was already lost. I think the only way the results of this battle would have been different, was to have someone on that board that was clairvoyant. I truly think that there was nothing else the LOL BOD or LOL members could have done to rectify the situation; it was out of LOL’s Hands.

For clarification, the reason that our last two events at CBIR were canceled was because the Track did not meet SCCA’s minimum safety requirements. Many people think CBIR is one of the safest tracks in the country. Over time, certain areas of the track have deteriorated to the point

that there were some serious safety issues that affect both workers and drivers.

The Board is already working on resolving the problem for next year, now that we have some time to work with the track. Now that the Board is aware of the safety problems, we now have the ability to work with the track to make things right, with the ultimate goal to improve our value to the track. At this point we have a group of people putting together some volunteers. They are also spending some time trying to find out the best and most effective way to fix the items at hand, with the hope of not just making it scrape by for next year, but to make any of the repairs done last several years, so this does not become an issue again in the near future.

If you are concerned that Club Racing will have a difficult time surviving in this region, or if you have some time to help in other areas of the club, now is the time to come forward. Many areas of the Club sure need your help. You don’t necessarily have to run for the Board. You just need to be willing to help out where help is needed.
