President VSCRThe other night I received a phone call from Shannon Murphy, Assistant Regional Executive of the Land O’Lakes Region of the Sports Car Club of America, asking if I had a few minutes to talk. Her need was much like ours and the rest of most volunteer organizations - volunteers. The Land O’Lakes Region needs our help in staffing their events and possibly running for their board - can you help? Your help would be greatly appreciated - especially for the Jack Pine Sprints. If you're not doing anything over Labor Day, and you’re at the track anyway -why not come out and work a session or a day in a specialty? All that is required is a SCCA membership and a desire to help out. Areas of need include Pits, Timing and Scoring, or just about any of the other specialties. If you can help, please give Shannon a call at (612) 798-3575, or send her an e-mail at blueflagger@yahoo.com. You’ll be glad you did, and you’ll have a good time too.
It’s not to late to begin thinking about running for our board as well, with our annual elections fast approaching in December. We too have plenty of opportunities available - most pressing the editor of our publication The
Inside Track. Also available are the positions of President and Vice President, SCCA Comp. Board Representative, Treasurer, Membership and Eligibility Committee Member positions - so if you can help, your Vintage Club would really be appreciative, as well as the current board members who may be experiencing the feeling of "until death do us part" with their board positions. I would be amiss not to mention the BRIC, but I have nothing to report, as I was not able to attend this year’s running due to work obligations. As many of you know, the company I work for merged with Allied Signal to form the new Honeywell International in December of last year, and this year has been one of transition and change (do more with less is what I think they call it). Due to this transition, I have not gotten very far away from Minneapolis all season long except for the Northwest Historics. So if anyone would like to fill me in on what I missed, or would like to write an article on how the club did as a whole at the BRIC, I’d love to hear about it.
Our remaining and last test day at the Dakota County Technical School will be September 9, 2000. For forty dollars it’s hard to beat this deal! If you’re interested contact Bill Groschen at 612-331-1235. By the way - thank you again Bill for your dedication, mentoring and for managing this part our racing season.
What’s on the horizon? The Jack Pine Sprints on Labor Day weekend at Brainerd followed by the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival September 22 - 24, at Road America. My personal schedule will include the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival, but not the Jack Pine Sprints. I’ll be working as a Steward for the Colorado Region Sports Car
Club of America at Second Creek Raceways (National/Regional) over the Labor Day weekend.
Looks like we’re out of time for this session, the checker is out, but before I close, as a footnote to last month’s report on the 12th Annual SOVREN Pacific Northwest Historics, the event raised $450,000 for the Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center of the Seattle area. See you down the road.

Background: SCCA member since 1999. No formal SCCA racing experience. President Performance Shop Chinen, a new local tuning and performance parts shop. Three years racing Gymkhana (solo II) in Okinawa Japan. Founder www.ClubSI.com, an online club with over 8,000 members.
Non race related: Eight years United States Marine Corps (Gulf War Veteran). Degree in Business and Management.
Why I am running for the board: I do not wish to see the Land O’ Lakes Region of the SCCA disbanded due to a lack of desire or interest on the part of the members. Although I do not have a great deal of experience in the SCCA I do have an extremely high level of dedication and determination. I have a strong business sense and very effective organizational skills. I will do my very best to serve the SCCA, the LOL region, and all its members.
