After a break in the summertime Solo action, the LOL Solo Championship series was back at it again, two weekends in a row. The first weekend was the 40th Anniversary event for the Sports Car Club of LaCrosse (SCCLaC). This Solo II event was held at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI on July 30th. It was a great day for an autocross and 48 competitors turned out to enjoy the action.

The results show that RJ Ehrler took first in F125 Kart, Dan Wieman won SS Kart, Shawn Strebbing took first in DM, Dave Jahimiak took honor in DP, Mark Konrad in BP, Eric Lawson in CP and Greg Marnach in BSP. ASP was taken by Chris Mosley and Chris Holter took first in CSP. Steven Mosley won DSP and Brian Bornhorst was first in ESP. FSP was won by Erick Thompson and Bale Bahr took honors in SS. Chris Schneider won in AS and Stephen Jones was first in BS. Tom Fisk won in CS and Richard Dickinson was first in DS. Rick Albrechtson was first in ES and Peter Petras won in FS. Cal Wieman was first in GS and Pete Glasspool was first in HS.

Besides the great racing, each competitor also received a dash plaque commemorating the event. Thanks for Rick Albrechtson for being the eventmaster for this event and SCCLaC for hosting such a great

event. Congratulations to SCCLaC on their 40th anniversary!

The 6th Event of the LOL Solo II Series was held on August 5th at the Dakota County Technical College in Rosemont, MN. It was MOWOG IV cosanctioned with MAC. Another large turnout (which is the norm at DCTC) of 103 competitors turned out. The day started out with nuisance, dribbling shower, but the rain stopped by 10:30 and the track was dry by noon. The first run group had their runs on the drying track, which led to a lot of cones being hit and a few spinouts, keeping the cone pickers busy. All of the run groups after that had a dry track (more or less) and times started to fall off as the competition heated up.

There were lots of winners in some very competitive classes. Rather than list them all here, you can go to the website and see the results. Thanks to all the competitors for coming out.

Thanks to Dwight McCullough and the rest of MAC for hosting this cosanctioned event with LOL. While we were at the event, Dick Dickinson had a great idea of putting on a Minnesota Solo Shootout. There are about 7 autocrossing clubs in Minnesota and each club would field a team for the shootout. This type of event has attracted a lot of interest in other parts of the country, so we think it would be a great event to hold at the end of the season. If you agree, let’s hear your comments and ideas about this event.

It is also getting to be that time of year to start thinking about our year-end awards for Solo II Driver of the Year and Solo II Rookie of the Year. So, start thinking about those awards and get ready to nominate the driver that you feel best fits the characteristics represented by these awards.

Finally, the 40th Annual Oktoberfest Autocross will be held on September 24th at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. Word has it that this will be the "Solo II of the Month" for the December issue of SportsCar magazine. This will be a wonderful opportunity to show your support for LOL and SCCLaC and get your name in SportsCar to boot! Everybody should come out and enjoy the action!

Next month we’ll have a run down on the Watertown Autocross. Keep having fun!

CHANGE IN LOL REGION SOLO II CHAMPIONSHIP RULES FOR 2000

At the July 6, 2000, Comp Board Meeting the SOLO II 2000 rules were amended due to the loss of the Rochester event from the schedule. The number of races which count towards the 2000 Championship was reduced from 7 to 6. This count reduction does not affect the requirement that you must compete in 60% of the events "in class" to qualify for year end awards. Any questions call Tom Fisk, SOLO II Chair, 507.281.2678, or Dick Dickinson, SOLO II Comp Board Rep 651.688.7627

Deadline for the October
Tonneau is September 12th.
Please submit your material at the LOL Board Meeting that night or send it to Lois Bjelke.
