Vintage Perspective

President VSCRThe BRIC is past, the Midwest Council race at Road America is past, and VSCR has staged 4 test tune days at the St. Cloud test track,YIKES! it must be time to get the car ready for Labor Day at CBIR.
VSCR had a big contingent at the BRIC. I did not attend, however I understand everyone had a good run, and overall the drivers were well-behaved and upbeat. The VSCR folks had rented one of those huge tents right in the center of the paddock, (on their own nickel) so they did not have to climb the hill to go for a brat.
I just returned from the August race with Midwest Council at Road America. The VSCR group was small, with just 5 drivers; 3 Fords, 1 Super Vee, and 1 Bugeye. I requested to race with the Club Fords so I could be with my open wheel brethren, however, the chief steward determined it would be safer for me to be sandwiched between 2 Mustangs, a Corvette, and a Sunbeam Tiger in the vintage/historic group. Now I know how a mosquito feels. Those cars are humungous next to a Formula Ford! And they really slow down to make a corner. This is not to belittle TransAm type racers, as they were beautifully
prepared and blindingly fast on the straights. But my car did not belong with their cars. During the Saturday qualifying race I found I could motor away from them on the outside of the carousel with pedal to the metal through the kink up to Canada Corner, hammer down through Thunder Valley, and I could gain enough distance so they could not pass me by turn one. But I had to drive ten tenths to do that (and to be honest I only went through the kink flat out once) and the whole scene was not that much fun. I scared myself into next week coming up on a back marker just past the Mitchell bridge and had to mow some grass. During the next race on Sunday, I let the big guys go, drove at a comfortable pace, caught them, let them go, caught them, etc. That proved to be much more of an enjoyable ride at speed. Tim Lynch finally achieved some success with his Super Vee, and has just one or two minor bugs left to iron out. Roger Karnopp and Rich Stadther had a helluva dice during the Saturday Club Ford qualifying race. I’m still not sure which one crossed the finish line first, but their grins lasted right through until Sunday. Don’t forget, there is another Test & Tune day coming up just before the Fall Festival at Road America.
VSCR will be at CBIR in full force for the LOL race Labor Day. We are keeping our fingers crossed. We hope to see all of you on Labor Day,
Until then, keep smilin’ and keep the faith.Jeff Ingebrigson
Registration at CBIR has moved!
Anyone that has been to CBIR in the last year or so knows that, due to reconstruction, we have lost the use of the old registration building.
Registration has now been moved inside the track, to the Driver's Lounge above Medical or to the second floor of the tower. To ensure that everyone does register properly, whether participant or guest, the following procedures have been adopted:
- At the front gate, each person will sign a track waiver.
- Each person will receive a numbered ticket once they have signed the waiver.
- That number will be recorded beside that person’s name on the track waiver.
- Each person is to immediately report to registration (In the Driver's Lounge above Medical or to the second floor of the tower.), turn in their numbered ticket, register "properly" and receive their event credentials.
- Registration will check the numbered tickets received against the track waiver.
- Specialty chiefs will check that all of their personnel have credentials du jour.
- Drivers don’t get their tech sticker unless they register. No sticker, no race.
- Drivers are responsible for their crew.
- Each person is responsible for their guests.
If there is a discrepancy between registration and the gate, we would like to remind you of the GCR provisions about responsibility of participants if they do not abide by the supplemental regulations. Big stick.
We hope that this set up will work and make registration a more pleasant experience for all concerned, not least the registrars themselves. Please help us with this.
